Disney Cruise Line Suspends Departures Through the End of the Year

Captain Mickey won’t sail again in 2020

In a move that does not really come as a surprise, Disney Cruise Line has suspended all departures through the end of the year. A statement at the top of the DCL website says “Disney Cruise Line Extends Suspension of All Departures through December 31.” There is then a link for more information. That page can be found here.

Even though I feel bad for those who just had a cruise canceled, I think that this is a step in the right direction. As I told you a couple of days ago, the No Sail Order from the CDC has expired. Cruise lines are now working hard on their plans for what they need to do in order to keep passengers as safe as possible. Disney is not rushing things.

When the theme parks started to reopen here in Central Florida, Disney did not open right away. Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld were both open a month before the Walt Disney World theme parks reopened. There are several water parks in Central Florida that are operating, but Disney is waiting until March 7, 2021 to open just one. They are being overly cautious.

I wouldn’t sail on most cruise lines during this crisis. I would consider sailing on a Disney Cruise Line ship, though. Disney has always taken extra precautions, and I have no doubt they will have plenty of extra safety measures in place once they decide to sail again. I look forward to the day that they announce the first ship back. I know I won’t be on it (cruises are expensive!), but I’ll be happy for those who are.
