Theme Park Guidelines for California

The guidelines to reopen Disneyland have been released

In a press conference on October 20, California Secretary of State Mark Ghaly released the guidelines that the large theme parks will need to follow in order to reopen. This includes the two theme parks at  Disneyland Resort. We still do not have a reopening date, but this is a step closer.

The theme parks in California are considered at high risk of transmission, and the county needs to be in Tier 4 in order for a park to reopen. Tier 4 is also Yellow/Minimal.

Once a park can reopen, it will be capped at 25% capacity. Advance reservations will be required at the park. (This will affect Universal Studios, which here in Florida does not require reservations.) If there is an outbreak, the reservations will help aid in contract tracing. Face coverings will be required as well, unless eating or drinking.

It was also mentioned in the press conference that teams were sent to theme parks in other states to see how things were running. The teams were pleased with how social distancing was handled in the lines, but were not impressed by how many people ignored the face covering requirements. There was also concern about close contact outside of the queues.

Orange County, California is currently under the Red/Substantial level as far as cases are concerned. It looks like it could still be a while.

Disney responded almost immediately. You can learn more here.
