Allergies and Special Diets, Part One: Intro

Share
You can follow a special diet AND enjoy delicious food!

One of the most common questions that I hear when someone is planning a Walt Disney World vacation has to do with special diets. Many people who can’t or won’t eat everything fear that they will have very few options at Walt Disney World. This is a subject that is near and dear to my heart. I’ve been a vegetarian for almost two decades. My daughter is as well, and she has a non-life threatening dairy allergy. My husband is a heart patient. Let me assure you that we have never had a hard time finding delicious food choices at Walt Disney World. Special dining is pretty easy.

There are two things that you need to do if you follow a special diet. You will need to ask questions, and you will sometimes need to talk to a chef. The staffs at most restaurants are more than willing to work with you to make sure that you have a fantastic meal.

The counter service restaurants have allergy friendly menus. Just ask to see one. The items that are safe for people with certain allergies are clearly laid out. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t still ask questions, but the menu is a good place to start.

In this series I’ll give tips and advice for those who follow different types of diets. You’ll be surprised by how simple Disney makes it.
