What Happens if You Have FastPass+ and the Ride Is Closed?

Entrance to Na’vi River Journey

There are two main reasons that a ride will shut down temporarily. The first is because there is a technical problem that needs to be fixed. The second reason is weather, Disney will not operate outdoor rides if there is lightning in the area. Does that mean that you’re out of luck if you have FastPass+ for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at the same time a storm decides to roll in? No, not at all. Disney has you covered, for the most part.

The first thing that you should do if a ride is down is check your email. Check the account that you use for My Disney Experience. You should receive a message from Walt Disney World that will explain that the ride is unavailable. You will also learn what you can do instead. You should be able to use the FastPass+ later in the day when the ride has reopened, and you won’t be limited to a time frame. You can return whenever it’s convenient for you. The email might also give you a list of attractions that you could use the FastPass+ for instead. The list will be based on availability, so don’t expect to be able to ride Avatar Flight of Passage because Primeval Whirl closed. Still, you’ll have an idea of your options. Remember that you will still only receive one FastPass+, you can either return to the original attraction or replace it.

Another thing you might want to do is check the My Disney Experience App, but quite honestly this might be a little bit confusing. It will list that you have FastPass+ for “multiple experiences” or something like that. Don’t get excited, you still only get one.

If you are near the ride, talk to the Cast Members at the entrance. They’ll be able to tell you what your next step should be. If the ride is expected to reopen soon, they’ll let you know. Often they won’t have more than general information, but they will help as much as they can.

If your FastPass+ was for a time near the end of the day, you might end up with a replacement that you can use the following day. The email will tell you that. If you’re not returning the next day you could be out of luck, so talk to a Cast Member at the ride’s entrance. Sometimes they will be able to help.
